"Newton is making some of the most riveting wines in America.
With a huge nose of chocolate, cedar, and cassis, this rich, full-bodied, spectacular wine offers unbelievably concentrated flavors, firm, sweet tannins, and enough acidity to give it grip and delineation.
The wine was bottled unfiltered."

"The Newton Merlots are the finest now being made in California.
The two vintages in release, the 1990 and 1991, possess exotic, Asian-spice, chocolate, mocha, sweet black-cherry-scented bouquets, thick, succulent, voluptuous flavors, admirable fruit, glycerin, and body, and whoppingly long finishes. These are super-rich, intense, spectacular, exotic, flamboyant Merlots. Both wines should last for 8-15 years."

"One of the most spectacularly beautiful vineyards, high on the lower slopes of Spring Mountain, is Newton Vineyards. Organically farmed and impeccably manicured, this was one of the first outposts to which famed Bordeaux consultant Michel Rolland came, and an entire generation of winemakers formed by his brilliance have emerged from Newton. The overall style of the wine is one built on European elegance and longevity."

NEWTON THE PUZZLE 2005-94 POINTS
-ROBERT PARKER JR. WINE ADVOCATE
#174, DEC 2007
"It is a beautifully textured, pure wine, but obviously needs time. It won’t be bottled for at least another year. The wine has a deep ruby/purple color and notes of subtle smoke intermixed with underbrush, black currant, cherry, licorice, and lavender. It is medium to full-bodied, has good acidity, and prominent tannins. Based on the way the wine was tasting when I was at Newton, this wine will need 4-5 years of bottle age, and should drink well for at least two-plus decades."

"For more than two decades, this has been one of the benchmarks, French-styled, full malolactic and unfiltered Chardonnays in Napa Valley. There have been many extraordinary vintages, some of which have aged far longer than anyone would have predicted."
