The Ruinart Sommelier Challenge 2021 to be held in Tokyo and Osaka for the first time!

Ruinart, the world's oldest Champagne house, will hold the Ruinart Sommelier Challenge 2021 in Japan for the first time this spring, hosted by Cellar Master, Frédéric Panaïotis. The Sommelier Challenge, which has been held in 12 countries, started in 2010 to provide training and support for sommeliers in each country. Those who pass the first screening (written assignments*) will compete in a blind tasting to test their knowledge of wine in general in a written format in Japanese and English at venues in Tokyo and Osaka in March.

The two winners will be invited to the "Ruinart Sommelier Week**" in Paris and Reims, France, together with the winners from each country.

*First screening assignment: Please answer each of the Japanese and English questions in the entry sheet.

**Ruinart Sommelier Week: A special program organized by Frédéric Panaïotis. Visit the cellars, vineyards and the CIVC (Comité Champagne). Please note that the program is subject to change without notice. Please also note that the program is scheduled to take place after the convergence of Covid-19.

The schedule of the contest is as follows,

Application starts January 20, 2021 (Wednesday)

Application deadline February 19 (Friday)

Announcement of the winners of the first screening will be made March 1 (Monday)

Sommelier Challenge March 18 (Thursday) in Tokyo, March 22 (Monday) in Osaka

Winners will be announced on April 1 (Thursday)

Two winners have been selected from the high-level competition “Ruinart Sommelier Challenge” to find excellent domestic sommeliers.

Ruinart held the "Ruinart Sommelier Challenge", a program to discover outstanding sommeliers in Japan, in Tokyo on October 30th (Monday) and in Kyoto on November 2nd (Thursday).
